The 72nd Wexford Festival Opera kicks off in just under a month, on Tuesday, October 24 - artistic director Rosetta Cucchi talks to RTÉ Arena above.

It runs until November 5, and the programme, as always, will offer a huge variety of performances, recitals, screenings and lectures across those 13 days, with a trio of operas broadcasting live and online via RTÉ Culture and RTÉ lyric fm.

Once again, Wexford Festival Opera has selected three full operas to stage at the National Opera House that are slightly outside the canon of well-known classics most people will be familiar with.

This year, the festival's artistic director, Rosetta Cucchi, has chosen an intriguing and very current theme to link the work throughout the programme.

The programme centres around the theme of Women and War, with each chosen work highlighting a different aspect of the struggles women face.
